iX7™ Controller Video

PDU Power Sharing - Why It's Important

The iX7 Controller PDU power sharing option allows a second controller linked through the expansion port with standard Cat5 cable to be powered in the case of a feed power-loss on either A or B side. Raritan’s Global Technical Product Manager, Paul Mott, talks more about an important feature in the video below.

Hey guys, it's Jess, and today I'm back with Paul Mott, Raritan's technical product manager for another video.

In today's video, we're gonna dive a little bit more into the specific features of our iX7 controller.

And today's topic is all about power share, so, let's get started.

Thanks, Jess. Power sharing is a great new feature on our iX7 controller, and we think it's gonna totally change the way data center operators monitor and manage their PDUs.

Let's take a look at some of the details.

Power sharing enables an iX7 PDU controller to share its power with a second controller; however, this does not provide power to the outlets.

It works by connecting the EXPANSION port of one PDU to another, using a basic category cable jumper.

This allows both PDU controllers to remain fully functional even if power is lost to one unit.

The main benefit is the ability to notify the user when a PDU loses power — this allows for quick remediation by identifying where and when an outage occurs.

Thanks, Paul and thank you guys for watching. We hope you found this video helpful.
